Communications Coordinator Job Description

Job Qualifications:

As the first person people will often meet as they contact or enter Rejoice Lutheran Church during the week, this position requires strong interpersonal communication skills in both spoken and written communications and a positive attitude. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Publisher and Power Point are required to effectively fulfill the duties that are associated with the position and the ability to learn computer and internet-based resources is a positive for potential growth in the position. A familiarity with liturgical worship and contemporary worship is beneficial. The position also requires the person to be organized and attentive to details and to be able to work both as a part of a team and be self-directed in performing their job responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

1. Coordinate with the Senior Pastor, staff, leadership and volunteers to maintain a central calendar for Rejoice Lutheran Church for scheduling and building usage.

2. Prepare resources for worship in coordination with the Senior Pastor and the worship leadership including:

a. Bulletins and worship resources for the 8:30 a.m. traditional service.

b. Projected slides and worship resources for the 11:15 a.m. contemporary service.

c. Resources as appropriate for special services like Advent, Lenten, Christmas Eve and Holy Week

d. Provide necessary resources for the assisting minister, worship coordinator, music leaders, projectionist and sound board operator to effectively perform their jobs during worship.

e. Provide resources for special events like baptism, confirmation, weddings, funerals and other special pastoral events

3. Oversee/Supervise all existing communications distributed for the congregation including:

a. Trumpet Notes-Weekly Announcements

b. The Reveler Monthly Newsletter c. Electronic communication on behalf of the congregation d. LED message sign in front of the property e. Bulletin Boards f. Printed and mailed communications g. Welcome and new member packets h. Annual report of the congregation

4. Management of the church office

a. The Communications coordinator is the primary person who receives incoming phone calls and visitors and is responsible for providing a welcoming environment for those contacting Rejoice Lutheran Church and for screening calls, routing requests and passing along messages as appropriate to the situation.

b. Ensuring the church office has the supplies that are needed for the church and the staff to be able to accomplish their missions and ordering and organizing supplies to facilitate those missions.

c. Ensure that necessary annual testing for building and code compliance are conducted appropriately to keep us in compliance with applicable regulations: This includes backflow testing, fire alarm, sprinklers and fire extinguishers.

Supervision

The Communications Coordinator works directly under the supervision of the Senior Pastor.

Hours and Compensation

Part-time Position, 20 hours per week, $15 per hour. Hours are flexible and are arranged with the Senior Pastor (currently 4 days, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. with flexibility).

The position includes two weeks of paid vacation coordinated with the Senior Pastor Paid Holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday Following Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and the day after Christmas.
